Department of Surgery Grants

October 2015

Amy Moore, MD, PI – Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
DOD / Macroscopic Management of Neuromas in Residual Limbs / W81XWH-15-1-0625
9/30/15-9/29/18: $1,083,819

Description: In this recently funded Department of Defense (DOD) Peer Reviewed Orthopedic Research Program (PRORP) grant, entitled Macroscopic Management of Neuromas, researchers are exploring the ability to “reset” nerve regeneration in a proximal nerve that was crushed followed by excision of the neuroma. Investigators will then inhibit neuroma formation with the use of a long processed nerve allograft attached to the nerve end, which they hypothesize will reduce neuroma regeneration over time.

Adetunji Toriola MD, PhD, PI – Division of Public Health Sciences
Susan G. Komen for the Cure / Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor-kB (RANK)-Axis and Mammographic Density / CCR15332379
10/1/15-9/30/18: $447,092

Description: This three-year grant will support a project called "Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor-kB (RANK)-Axis and Mammographic Density." The study will investigate the associations of circulating levels of RANK pathway biomarkers with percent mammographic density. Further, it will determine how changes in biomarker levels over a one-year period are associated with percent mammographic density over the same period of time. Read more on the Susan G. Komen St. Louis blog.
