Post-Graduate Teaching Programs

Our residency program seeks to train outstanding physicians for careers in plastic and reconstructive surgery in an academically oriented environment.

Dr. Vilray Blair — one of the founders of the plastic surgery specialty — initially developed the training program at Washington University School of Medicine in the early 20th Century. Many plastic surgeons who trained under Blair and his pupils went on to become leaders in academic medicine as well as introducing innovations in plastic surgery.

Today, the fully accredited training program offers comprehensive training in plastic surgery subspecialties.

An independent program — as described by the Association of Academic Chairmen of Plastic Surgery (AACPS)  — the residency includes three years of prerequisite training in general surgery and two years of plastic surgery training.

The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery also offers a hand and microsurgery fellowship.
