To apply for the Hand, Nerve and Microsurgery Fellowship Program, you will need to use the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) Fellowship Application platform, which will become available on October 15, 2017. Please check back then for the URL link to proceed. You will then be able to upload all parts of your application except for your letters of recommendation, which your recommenders will need to upload on your behalf.
In the meantime, you should prepare the following documents:
- Your current CV/resume
Your CV/resume should include a listing of your publications, presentations, research and grant experience, activities with professional societies and any other relevant information about your education or experience.
- Personal Statement
- USMLE (or alternate scores)
- A jpg headshot photo of yourself
You should also ask three people to prepare letters to upload on your behalf:
- Three letters of recommendation
These letters should be from physicians or faculty members who are familiar with your work including the chief of your residency training program and a hand surgeon. Authors should address your professional, academic and personal qualifications, as well as an opinion of your potential success in the field of hand and microsurgery.
The application deadline is December 15 the year before you plan to start the fellowship program. Once your application is reviewed, you will be notified regarding interviews, which are usually conducted in February. We accept two fellows each year. Washington University School of Medicine’s Hand, Nerve and Microsurgery Fellowship Program participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).
