This October, six Department of Surgery faculty were recognized at the Academy of Educators induction and awards ceremony.
Kelly Currie, MD, associate director of the plastic surgery residency program at WashU Medicine, received the Rising Star Award from the Academy of Educators.
The Rising Star Award recognizes a current early career Washington University faculty member who shows exceptional promise as an educator through contributions in one or more domains of educational service, leadership, or scholarship.
The academy noted that Currie received the award for: “Excellence in teaching fellows, residents and students. She has implemented a new surgical simulation curriculum, wrote clear dissection guides, and created an entirely novel curriculum addressing social determinants of health.”
At the ceremony, Currie and five other surgical faculty members were inducted as members of the Academy of Educators.

The Academy of Educators at WashU Medicine is an institutional collaboration of educators who together will foster a culture of educational excellence and an institutionally valued community of leaders in health science education.
