Zhu joins Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: August 2025

William Zhu, MD, has joined the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as an assistant professor of surgery.

Zhu specializes in microsurgical breast reconstruction, aesthetic surgery and general plastic surgery.

“Dr. Zhu brings a collaborative spirit of dynamic problem-solving to plastic surgery,” said Justin Sacks, MD, MBA, director of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. “His dedication in both the clinical setting and in research will help us advance the quality of care for future patients in the plastic surgery practice.”

Zhu earned his medical degree at the University of California San Diego, after earning his bachelor’s in chemistry and biology at WashU. He completed plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at WashU Medicine in June 2025.

As an alumnus of the plastic surgery residency at WashU Medicine, Zhu has participated in a variety of research projects under the mentorship of Sacks, who is the Sydney M. Jr. and Robert H. Shoenberg Endowed Chair in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Zhu has contributed to published findings in the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery and Annals of Plastic Surgery.

“I aim to empower my patients to make decisions that align with their goals,” said Zhu. “My approach in both the clinic and the operating room is to provide evidence- and team-based, patient-focused care.”

The Department of Surgery welcomes William Zhu, MD, to the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
