Reconstructive surgeon Ruth Tevlin, MD, has joined the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as an assistant professor of surgery. Tevlin specializes in both adult and pediatric plastic surgery, having recently completed a craniofacial surgery fellowship. Her expertise includes the treatment of craniosynostosis, craniofacial microsomia, palatoplasty, synkinesis, and facial palsy.
Tevlin gained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2012. She entered a postdoctoral research fellowship program in pediatric regenerative medicine at the Lokey Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University in California and earned her medical degree in 2015 at University College Dublin in Ireland. Tevlin rounded out her plastic surgery training in the plastic surgery residency program at Stanford University, which she completed in 2024.
After completing her plastic surgery residency training, Tevlin continued her specialization in the craniofacial surgery fellowship program at Seattle Children’s Hospital at University of Washington in 2024.
“Dr. Tevlin has an infectious passion for both patient care and basic science,” says Justin Sacks, MD, MBA, director of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. “She is a throwback to the time of the classic surgeon-scientist. We are absolutely thrilled to see her accelerate academic adult and pediatric craniofacial plastic surgery.”
Tevlin’s areas of research interest are tissue regeneration, skeletal stem cell biology, craniofacial surgery, distraction osteogenesis, and surgical sustainability. She has contributed to more than sixty peer-reviewed publications throughout her career. Tevlin is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Plastic Surgical Research Council, the International Society of Craniofacial Surgeons, the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association, and the Rhinoplasty Society.
The Department of Surgery welcomes Ruth Tevlin, MD, to the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
