Brown joins Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Danielle Brown, MD, MS, has joined the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as an assistant professor of surgery. Her primary practice location will be at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Brown has published in peer-reviewed journals including the European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, Hand, Injury, and The Annals of Plastic Surgery. She has presented nationally at the American Association of Hand Surgery (AAHS), where she shared her research on antibiotic use in traumatic upper extremity injuries, and locally at the James Barrett Brown Resident Research Day, where she presented her study on risk factors for trigger finger recurrence.

Brown earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. She completed plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at WashU Medicine in 2024 and hand surgery fellowship at Henry Ford Health System in 2025. She has received multiple honors, including a resident teaching award and a surgical scholars award from the University of Mississippi.

In addition to her research output, Brown has led quality improvement initiatives, including a multi-disciplinary project that enhanced perioperative regional anesthesia at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Her work was included at the University and Medical Consortium Joint Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Symposium (PSQI) and has received institutional support for implementation.

“Dr. Brown was an outstanding chief resident where she was identified as a significant leader in department patient safety and quality improvements,” said Justin Sacks, MD, MBA, the director of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at WashU Medicine. “Her advanced upper extremity hand fellowship training will elevate the division and the Alton Memorial Hospital community where her initial practice will be based. We are so excited to see what a fellowship trained home-grown all-star will bring to our program and health care system.”

Alton Memorial Hospital offers a comprehensive range of plastic surgery services. The multidisciplinary team is dedicated to personalized care, utilizing advanced techniques to ensure favorable outcomes for patients.

“What makes Washington University so special is the outstanding level of patient care,” said Brown. “It was a privilege to train here, and I am honored to return as faculty. I look forward to serving the community at Alton Memorial Hospital and meeting the hand and reconstructive surgery needs for years to come.”

The Department of Surgery welcomes Danielle Brown, MD, MS, to the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
