Bo Overschmidt, MD, has joined the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as an assistant professor of surgery.
During his time in residency, Overschmidt presented research at the annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This research presentation discussed the use of acellular dermal matrices for pectoral breast reconstruction. He has also contributed to research publications in Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, Annals of Plastic Surgery, and the Journal of Burn Care and Research. Overschmidt has also contributed to radial nerve reconstruction research with a $500,000 DOD Grant.
“Dr. Overschmidt is a native of St. Louis who has traveled to the country to incredible academic centers to obtain the best education and training,” says Justin Sacks, MD, MBA, the director of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at WashU Medicine. “He is returning to St. Louis to perform state-of-the art hand, upper and lower extremity reconstruction along with general reconstruction. We are thrilled to see Dr. Overschmidt offer the most sophisticated care to all patients in the region and offering our program a true diversity of training experience.”
In 2018 Overschmidt earned his medical degree from WashU Medicine and entered the plastic and reconstructive surgery residency program at University of Utah Health in Salt Lake City, Utah. He completed his residency training in 2024. He completed a hand surgery fellowship program at Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
