Ali Khiabani, MD, MHA, joins Section of Cardiac Surgery

Ali Khiabani, MD, MHA, who specializes in congenital and acquired cardiac conditions, has joined the Section of Cardiac Surgery as an assistant professor. He returns to WashU Medicine after a faculty position as an instructor of surgery, then assistant professor of surgery at Creighton University in the cardiac surgery specialty.

Khiabani is an American Board of Surgery certified surgeon, and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He is also a member of AOA Honor Medical Society.

“Dr. Khiabani is an outstanding addition to our Section of Cardiac Surgery, combining exceptional training at WashU Medicine with valuable faculty experience at Creighton University,” said Tsuyoshi Kaneko, MD, who is the director of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and chief of the Section of Cardiac Surgery. “He brings tremendous energy, passion, a relentless work ethic, and a collaborative spirit that will strengthen our team. Dr. Khiabani’s expertise in arrhythmia surgery and minimally invasive cardiac surgery will expand the advanced treatment options available to our patients. His commitment to innovation, education, and academic surgery will further enhance our clinical, research, and training missions.”

Khiabini earned his medical degree from Chicago Medical School. He completed general surgery residency training, a cardiac surgery research fellowship, and a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at WashU Medicine.

Khiabani will be seeing patients at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital and the Center for Advanced Medicine.
