Question: What led you to consider bariatric surgery?

Answer: I guess in my mind it sounded a lot more comprehensive from a patient standpoint. And I felt like I wasn’t eligible since I was in my 30s and had no other health issues at the time, other than sleep apnea. My primary care doctor first brought up the idea of Ozempic, or a surgical procedure when I asked about weight loss. After doing some research and soul searching, I realized that I owe it to myself and to my family to at least explore the option to set forth a better lifestyle. We always say we’d die for our wife and kids, but I decided that I’d also like to live for them and myself as well.

Q: How was your experience with the surgery and recovery process?

A: Honestly, it was as ideal as I could’ve hoped for. Dr. Mou and his team did such an excellent job explaining things pre-op. The surgery went really well, and I was maybe sore for a couple days post-op but I had my surgery on 10/28, and by 10/31, I was out trick-or-treating with my wife and kids. The new diet lifestyle took trial and error, and I had to be careful with my drink intake so as not to consume too much too quickly. By that weekend, I had no more soreness.

Q: What has changed since your surgery?

A: I feel so much better nowadays. A lot of my joint pain has subsided, I have more energy, and I can get through my workouts so much easier. I feel more confident in my own body. Clothes fit better; in fact, I’ve actually had to begin thrifting for new clothes because I am down so many sizes. I can’t even put a number on it as to how much better I feel both emotionally and mentally.
