Benjamin Kozower, MD, PhD, a professor of surgery in the Section of Thoracic Surgery at WashU Medicine, has been named Editor of the Year by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). Kozower, who also serves as the vice chair for patient safety and quality improvement in the Department of Surgery, received the recognition at the STS annual meeting, held from January 29 through February 1 in New Orleans, La.
Kozower was honored for his exceptional management of manuscript reviews, both in volume and quality, in his role as editor for general thoracic surgery in the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. During the meeting, he also co-moderated a panel discussion titled “Cutting Edge Multimodality Care for Lung Cancer,” addressing the state of thoracic surgery.
As a surgeon-scientist, Kozower conducts research focused on lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and health service research, with an emphasis on incorporating patient-reported outcomes into clinical use. His role in mentoring research further emphasizes his expertise and dedication to advancing thoracic surgical care.
