Kamlesh Patel, MD, MSc, who is the Joseph B. Kimbrough Chair for Pediatric Dentistry at WashU Medicine, was named president-elect of the Children’s Medical Executive Committee (CMEC). The St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) executive committee recently held elections for leadership roles, among which was the role of president of CMEC. His term starts on September 1.
Patel is a professor of surgery in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, who serves as director of craniofacial surgery at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, specializes in treatment for patients with cleft lip and palate, craniosynostosis, and facial trauma.
Patel cites his experience as medical director of SLCH operating rooms as a contributing benefit to his new position.
“In the role of medical director of operating rooms, I assist in managing the surgical schedule, providing clinical oversight, observing team members and aid in optimizing throughput and efficiency,” said Patel. “I facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation between sub-specialties, including resolving any issues that may arise. It is an honor to serve in this new capacity.”
Additionally, Patel acts as a liaison between hospital management and the school of medicine’s surgical departments and participates in reviewing safety and customer service concerns. Patel is also part of the Barnes Jewish Corporation (BJC) Perioperative Governance Council, contributing to the advancement of perioperative best practices across the BJC system.
Among his accolades, Patel has been included in Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors list since 2022 for his contributions to the St. Louis community.
