Meet Dr. Drake

Dr. Bettina Drake is an epidemiologist specializing in identifying preventive strategies to reduce health disparities in cancer and other chronic disease outcomes.

She is most interested in how her community-based work informs and strengthens her epidemiology findings. Information gained from community-based studies informs both study design and recruitment strategies.

Dr. Drake earned her medical degree from University of South Carolina Arnold School of Public Health. She completed research fellowship at Harvard University T.H Chan School of Public Health.

From the start, my research has focused on promoting equity in health care for all populations. Community engagement is necessary to ensure your research questions are adequately addressing the needs of the community. Honest, active and sustained engagement is imperative for long-term impact. There are multiple centers and researchers across our university who engage the community to develop and conduct their research and inform their teaching.
