Meet Dr. Margenthaler

Dr. Julie Margenthaler is a general surgeon specializing in surgical oncology.

She has expertise in breast cancer treatment, high risk assessment, breast biopsy, mastectomy, and partial mastectomy (lumpectomy).

Dr. Margenthaler earned her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She began general surgery residency training at St. Louis University Hospitals from 1997 to 1999, completing residency training at WashU Medicine in 2005. She also completed a research fellowship and a breast disease fellowship at WashU Medicine.

“Breast cancer research is vital to our patients’ outcomes. Early detection from screenings has played the biggest role in physicians’ ability to identify cancer since the 1970s. Fortunately, WashU offers screenings in many different locations throughout St. Louis at multiple satellite sites, as well as a mammography van to provide access to underserved communities.”
