He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. His particular interest in hereditary colorectal cancer has led to his election to the Council and eventually the Presidency (2010-2011) of the Collaborative Group of the Americas on Inherited Colorectal Cancer, where he also served for four years on the CGA Fund Board; and he was a founding member of the Lynch Syndrome Screening Network, a group dedicated to increasing the identification of patients and their family members who are at risk for Lynch syndrome. Additionally, as a Fellow of the ASCRS, Dr. Wise has been a member of multiple committees including Continuing Education (2007-2010), Program (2009-2011), Public Relations (2011-2014), Website (2011-2020, Chair 2017-2020), and CREST (2013-2015). He also served on the Postgraduate/Continuing Medical Education Committee of the Society of Surgeons of the Alimentary Tract (2013-2017). Dr. Wise’s interest in the academic aspects of surgical education has grown further since starting as the General Surgery Program Director at Washington University in 2014, and he is now actively involved in education research as well as participation in the Association of Program Directors in Surgery and the Association of Surgical Education.
