L. Michael Brunt, MD, was recently recognized at the National Hockey League Team Physicians annual meeting for 30 years of service as a team physician with the St. Louis Blues.
The award was presented by Ray Barile, head athletic trainer with the St. Louis Blues.
Brunt has been a team physician with the Blues since 1994, treating sports hernias and other athletic injuries. Brunt participates in the 2nd Medical Opinion Registries of Physicians for the NHL, NHL Players Association and National Basketball Association, and is a nationally recognized expert in treating professional hockey and other athletes from across the U.S. and Canada with athletic groin and core muscle injuries.
Brunt, who is the Pruett Family Professor of Surgery, is among the most widely accomplished and respected minimally invasive surgeons in the U.S. He served as chief of the Section of Minimally Invasive Surgery at WashU Medicine from 2014 to 2024. He has been listed in Best Doctors of America since 1996, in Best Doctors in St. Louis since 2002 and in the Guide to America’s Top Surgeons since 2006. In 2021, Brunt received the Barnes-Jewish Medical Staff Association Lifetime Achievement Award, given annually to physicians with 25 years or more of distinguished service at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
The Department of Surgery congratulates Brunt on his years of service with the 2019 Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues.
