Danny Mou, MD, MPH, a weight loss surgeon, joins the Section of Minimally Invasive Surgery as an assistant professor of surgery.
Mou, who has expertise in minimally invasive surgical techniques, specializes in bariatric surgery treatment for obesity in adults and adolescents.
“We are excited for Dr. Mou to join the Section of Minimally Invasive Surgery and the faculty of WashU Medicine,” says Jeffrey Blatnik, MD, chief of the Section of Minimally Invasive Surgery. “He brings his experience in not only the care of bariatric surgery patients, but also a tremendous experience in patient reported outcome measures (PROMs). He has a goal of streamlining the medical and surgical care for obese patients across the medical campus, and we look forward to this next chapter in care of this complex patient population.”
Mou earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He completed general surgery residency training at Harvard/Brigham Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, where he also earned a master of public health in health management. Mou completed an advanced minimally invasive surgery fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine.
In addition to his surgical expertise, Mou is an experienced researcher focused on implementing patient-reported outcome measures for patients undergoing bariatric surgery. His research also involves integrating bariatric surgery with weight loss medications to optimize outcomes for patients. He also has strategy and management consulting experience in the pharmaceutical and medical devices space.
“I am beyond excited to be joining a world-class institution such as WashU Medicine,” says Mou. “I know that amazing things happen when talented, motivated people work together to achieve a meaningful goal, and I can’t wait to begin working with the WashU Surgery team. The advent of GLP-1 agonists has transformed the bariatric field. It is not well understood how these medications should fit within the existing standard of care that includes endoscopic and surgical therapies. I hope to leverage WashU’s incredible talent from the bariatric medical, GI, and surgical specialties to create a comprehensive weight loss center that will provide best in class care.”
The Department of Surgery welcomes Danny Mou, MD, MPH, to the Section of Minimally Invasive Surgery.
