Hubert Swana, MD, a pediatric urologist, joins the Division of Urologic Surgery as a professor of surgery, effective September 3, 2024.
Swana, who will also serve as director of pediatric urology at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and WashU Medicine, specializes in pediatric urologic surgery using minimally invasive techniques, reconstruction and the urologic care of patients with myelomeningocele.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Swana to our team at St. Louis Children’s Hospital,” says Michael Johnson, MD, interim chief of the Division of Urologic Surgery. “Dr. Swana brings a wealth of knowledge and skill in the treatment of children with urologic issues. He will lead our pediatric practice into a new era.”
Swana earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH. He completed general surgery and urology residency training at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT, and a pediatric urology fellowship at University of California, San Francisco.
Swana is a member of the leading professional societies in his field, including the American Urological Association and the Society of Pediatric Urology. He is an accomplished educator and has led research on the treatment of urinary incontinence due to overactive bladder in spina bifidia patients.
