Matthew Claxton, DPM, CWSP, Joins Section of Acute and Critical Care Surgery

Matthew Claxton, DPM, CWSP, a podiatrist with expertise in limb preservation techniques, joins the Section of Acute and Critical Care Surgery as an assistant professor of surgery.

Claxton has been in practice in the St. Louis area, providing podiatric care, for over a decade.

“Dr. Claxton brings a wealth of experience in the area of limb salvage and is well respected in the St. Louis area for his clinical expertise,” says Grant Bochicchio, MD, who serves as chief of the Section of Acute and Critical Care Surgery and the Edison Professor of Surgery.

Claxton earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. He completed primary podiatric medical residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and podiatric surgical residency at Southern Arizona Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. Claxton also earned his certification from American Board of Wound Management for Certified Wound Specialist Physician.

“I am excited about the opportunity to share my passion for wound care and limb preservation with my new colleagues at Washington University School of Medicine,” says Claxton. “Through continued research, I plan to improve outcomes with patient education and behavioral modifications.”

The Department of Surgery welcomes Matthew Claxton, DPM, CWSP, to the Section of Acute and Critical Care Surgery.
