Meet Dr. Awad.
Dr. Michael Awad is a consummate general surgery specialist, with proficiency in minimally invasive procedures.
He has expertise in laparoscopic and robotic surgery procedures, such as paraesophageal hernia repairs, duodenojejunostomy, and cholecystectomy.
Dr. Awad earned his medical degree from Brown University School of Medicine. He completed general surgery residency training at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, served as visiting registrar at The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford University in 2006 and completed a laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery fellowship at Legacy Health Systems and Oregon Health Sciences in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Awad serves as director for the minimally invasive surgery fellowship at WashU Medicine.
“We introduce residents to robotic surgery skills in our simulation center to give them hands-on experience in a simulated environment, where education can take center stage. This allows our trainees to make the transition from the role of the observer to being active participants in clinical cases.”
