Education Recognition

Department of Surgery Teaching Awards 2020-2021

The Department of Surgery began a new academic year this August at the “Education Opening Day.”

This event featured a talk by Emeritus Professor of Surgery Mary Klingensmith, MD, about her “good fortune with surgical education at Washington University.” Klingensmith, who is Vice President for Procedural Accreditation at the ACGME, transformed surgical education at the School of Medicine and nationwide since joining the Department of Surgery in 2000.

“We also had the opportunity to hear great presentations about innovative and exciting educational research being done here by our trainees,” says General Surgery Residency Program Director Paul Wise, MD.

The department also announced the recipients of the 2020-2021 Teaching Awards. These awards recognize Department of Surgery residents, fellows and faculty for their contributions to resident and medical student education during the 2020-2021 academic year. Awards are based on weighted assessments of medical student evaluations, reviews of education sessions, nomination surveys and other online evaluations for this academic year.

Congratulations to the 2020-2021 Teaching Awards recipients!
